Hola hola familia!
Another week has gone by! This has been a crazy week. It started off
with us saying goodbye to our third wheel, Hermana Wise. It was super
sad, and we have had to make a couple of adjustments but the work goes
on! Hermana Fernandez and I have been working like crazy! We come home
exhausted every night. It's so great.
Last night we had our meet and greet with the stake presidency. They
are so great! They keep us going and keep us motivated. Our stake
president was telling us that he stayed in his first area for his
whole mission! He never changed his area. He was the branch president
for the area that he was serving in. His district stayed the same for
18 months as well. How crazy is that! So his point was that at times
we feel like we have literally talked to everyone and we feel like our
area isn't progressing, but we have to keep going because God is
preparing people for us to teach. He said that after he got over the
fact that he was feeling sorry of himself he and his companion got to
work and baptized 24 people throughout his mission. Anyways they are
great! They are keeping me motivated!
On Tuesday we were headed to an appointment and we saw the NBC news,
they were just shooting from downtown and I told my companion that if
they were still there by the time we were done with our lesson we are
contacting them! Well, our lesson fell through so as we were walking
back I went up and started talking to them. I contacted Mark Matthews
and his crew and we invited them to go check out Mormon.org. It was
fun!
On Sunday morning at 3:19 am we had an earthquake! I don't know if you
all have heard about it! It was crazy! It was a 6.2 earthquake. It
didn't last long, but at first I was seriously so confused at what was
going on. I looked over to see if my companion was ok and at first it
didn't look like she was there so I was thinking...where is my
companion and why is everything shaking?? Haha. At first I thought I
was dreaming but then the electricity went out and then came back on
and I knew that I wasn't dreaming. When it was over we both just kind
of laid back down and went back to sleep. There wasn't an after shock
or anything and for some reason I wasn't worried about another one
happening. I was seriously just out of it! It was quite the
experience. That was Hermana Fernandez first earthquake too!
Anyways, love you all!!
Love, Hermana Hamblin

Hola familia!!
Oh my goodness! It has been a crazy crazy week! On Thursday we had six
lessons planned and only one of them actually happened. We had two
different members come out with us and our appointments fell through
with both of them! It was so sad. Our time with members is precious,
and when appointments fall through it's just sad! We went out
contacting with them both and even tried two different appointments
with our last member and nobody was home! It was so annoying. But we
were grateful for our willing members to come with us.
Thursday night, on our way home we got a call from President Alba. He
asked Hermana Fernandez about switching to be an English missionary.
This is my companion from Spain. All transfer long she has been trying
to perfect her English and she has been doing a great job at it, but
she feels that she doesn't know the language at all. Anyways President
asked her to pray about it and if her answer was to go English
speaking she would leave the very next morning. I guess we have a few
English sisters who are going home early due to health so President
needed someone right away. This broke Hermana Fernandez heart because
it was Hermana Wises last weekend here in the mission and on top of
that she was scared to death to speak English. So she just started
crying.
We got in our apartment and Hermana Fernandez was still crying but
wanted to continue on with planning and so we started to plan and a
couple minutes into planning she went into the bathroom to cry.
Hermana Wise and I decided to let her have her space and we finished
planning. Afterwards we were looking at pictures that Hermana Wise had
and by this time Hermana Fernandez had made it to her bed. She was
praying...or at least that's what we thought she was doing. We heard
heavy breathing coming from our room and Hermana Wise and I went to
go check on her and we came into the room and Hermana Fernandez was
just on her bed hyperventilating and she had slowly gone into a panic
attack. Luckily Hermana Wise had had a lot of experience with panic
attacks and for the most part knew kind of what to do. Anyways her
whole body was rock hard and she was not responding to anything we
were saying. So I called the mission nurse and she wasn't answering,
so we called Sister Alba and she didn't answer either! So I called
President and he answered. He talked us through the attack here and
there, we were pretty much on the phone with him all night. The attack
lasted until about midnight. We had to have our zone leaders come over
and give her a blessing. It was crazy. President was so nice. He was
so concerned and he made sure that everything was ok before he went to
sleep. I am so grateful for him. He does so much for us missionaries.
Him and Sister Alba both work their tails off for us. Saturday we
spent about three hours at Sister Steuarts house (she is our mission
nurse). And she talked to Hermana Fernandez about it and gave us
advice on what to do next time that happens. I am so grateful for all
that they do for a missionaries. They care so much for us.
It turns out that Hermana Fernandez and I are staying together and it
will be just the two of us is transfer. I can't believe that Hermana
Wise is done! She had her interview with President yesterday and we
are on our way to go drop her off at the mission office. It is sad!
It's going to be so weird without her. I am a little nervous for
Hermana Fernandez because she is really sad about Hermana wise going
home, I am just praying that we aren't going to have to go through
another panic attack! It was stressful that night! But now I know what
to do when my companion is having a panic attack!
Anyways that's the news for this week. I seriously can't think of
anything else. It has been a hectic/stressful week! But we are going
to have a good transfer and we are going to work hard! If things go
right we will be baptizing a family in September!! That makes it all
worth it.
I love you all! Hope you have a great week. Love, Hermana Hamblin

Hello family!!
I can't believe that summer is gone! What the heck! Seriously. Time
flies! Just a little reminder to hold on to every minute. This
transfer I am a partner in crime in killing my third companion. As she
is preparing to go home in about two weeks I am just watching her
work. She is on fire! I got put together with two of the best
companions in the mission. It was pretty cool because Hermana Wise
celebrated her 17th month mark, Hermana Fernandez celebrated her year
mark and I celebrated my six month mark! And they both help me out
with Spanish (which has improved a lot!!!!) #giftoftounges.
Yesterday was such a great day! All of the members in the northern
part of California participated in a fast and an hour of prayer that
was specifically for the missionaries. President Alba asked all of us
missionaries to personally call each and every one of the members in
our wards/branches and ask them to participate in this fast and hour
of prayer (I am pro at making phone calls in Spanish). And yesterday
the spirit was just so strong. I was able to bear a testimony and I
was even getting choked up. It was great!
Yesterday at dinner this family fed 17 missionaries. Unfortunately
the husband signed up to feed the 9 Spanish missionaries while the
wife signed up to feed the 8 English missionaries haha! They said that
it was a pleasure anyways having all 17 of us in their home. They are
such a neat family. We had a powerful power hour. The dad explained
that he enjoyed having us in their home after the fast and hour of
prayer that just took place. Afterwards the missionaries all 17 of us
sang come unto Christ. Oh my gosh! It was awesome.
Oh my goodness! My companion was asked to pay the piano for primary
and it was. So fun being in there with them. We were so famous! Haha I
loved it! The leaders were like, "we have special guests with us
today!" And all the kids were like, "the sister missionaries!!" My
heart just melted! Later the teacher was asking them if they had ever
had an experience where they have prayed and Heavenly Father has
answered their prayers and one kid raised his hand and said that one
time he was in Disneyland and his family wanted him to go on the
pirates of the carribean ride and he was scared so he said a prayer
and Heavenly Father gave him strength to go on the ride. All of the
answers after that were all about Disneyland. I was thinking I was in
the right place :)
Thanks for all of the letters and everything! I love you all so much!
